Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve
The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is an 1,800-acre state reserve west of Lancaster that draws visitors from across Southern California when the wildflower bloom peaks between mid-March and mid-April. In a strong rain year, the hillsides turn vivid orange for miles in every direction — it's one of the most spectacular natural displays in California. Eight miles of hiking trails wind through the reserve, and the Jane S. Pinheiro Interpretive Center at the main entrance provides bloom maps and trail information.
The official reserve page lists small-bus parking at $50 for 9–24 passengers and large-bus parking at $100 for 25 or more, so groups can compare the bus size with the published entrance cost before arrival. Weekend parking fills by 9 or 10 a.m. during peak bloom, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation periodically implements vehicle quotas on high-traffic days. A charter bus or minibus drops your group at the entrance and sidesteps the parking situation entirely.
Confirm current conditions on the reserve's official page before your visit.
